   Doug's Refurbishment

The First Job was to Separate the Engine from the Gearbox.

engear.jpg (18014 bytes) This was a really dirty job.
Once they were separated, it was a case of cleaning them up. engine.jpg (18492 bytes)

Next I blocked off all entry holes into the engine.

Then I coated the engine & gearbox with "Gunk" a degreasing solution available from "Halfords".

Finally I gave them a good washing with a Home Power Washer.

sb1.jpg (18823 bytes) I used the same procedure on the chassis parts to clean them up.
However some parts were quite badly pitted, so I decided to have them
sandblasted.  This was really worthwhile as you can see in these photos.

I was also careful not to shotblast the  front wheelbearing assembly as I was concerned that the seals would  suffer so I cleaned them by hand also- not easy I might add!   The cost of the sandblasting was 25.00

fd.jpg (17961 bytes) I did not have the final drive unit shot blasted, as  I felt that there would be a danger of shot ingress to the gears and  seals, so I cleaned it using my power drill and a variety of rotating  steel brushes.

However I have bought new seals for the half shaft apertures as it seems easy to do while the drive is on the bench. I then  hand painted it using two coats of silver Hammerite which seems less  brittle than the black gloss.

Various parts were renewed.

I paid particular attention to the safety aspect and renewed all the brake components.

Brake cylinders; Front Ventilated Discs; Front Calipers; Front Brake Pads; Rear Drums and Brake Shoes.

This kept me busy whilst I was waiting on my kit.
Then the phone call arrived from JBA
"Your Delivery Date is 11/12/99".
The Next Page shows Photos of my Kit after it arrived.
