This is a photo of Russell Smith's Falcon Sports
Mark 1 named the Falcon Roadster. The photo was taken at the Uxbridge show two years ago. The car is still showing
it's original colours of Cream and Green. He bought his
Falcon in June 1988 from Francis Lewis who lived in Ormskirk,
Lancashire.
Russell lives in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He
would be a very handy chap to have around as he is a TIG welder to trade,
specializing in stainless steel and aluminium.
He has just finished preparing his car for M.O.T. and
one part he had to repair was the stainless steel manifold, which
developed a crack, not bad when you consider that he made the manifold 12
years ago and he uses his Falcon every day of the year
Another job he has tackled is changing the Pinto
engine for a Rover SDI 3.5 Litre V8 engine.
However he says never again. It involved a lot of
work.
Russell first contacted me to trace the history of his
car and I can sometimes do this through past membership lists. In this
case I could find no trace, however Dave Ashley of JBA came to the rescue
and on checking their records found that his car had been built at the
factory in 1984 for an owner who lived in Appley Bridge near Wigan.
The First JBA Falcon was built in 1982 and the JBA
Owners Club did not come into being till 1987 and was started by Geoff
Payne MBE.
I was quite pleased to receive this photo as it goes to
show the quality of the cars. Look for more photos from
Russell once he has finished his engine transformation.
